2006 HUNTSMAN NSA SENIOR WORLDS UPDATE: St. George, Utah October 16-20, 2006 Enviro-Vac Marauder 50s from Surrey, BC were awarded the silver medal playing Major in St. George, Utah this October. An improvement from the bronze medal in 2005. Senior teams in the US are rated by the US Ratings Group, an association of seven senior softball associations. Teams in the Huntsman Major division consisted mostly of Major Plus rated teams with one other Major team, Hootys from Wisconsin. Highlights of the tournament for the Enviro-Vac team included knocking out the 2005 reigning Major tournament champions, Hootys and along the way also knocking out Major Plus BRL Academy Sports and Gies Chiropractic. The Majors championship went to this years SSUSA Major plus finalists, Oregon Masters who outscored the Enviro-Vac club by 6 runs in the finals. The Huntsman tournament is different in their divisional ratings then the other senior associations. Huntsman does not go by the “State Bordering Rule” allowing teams to pick up players from anywhere in the world. In SSUSA play for instance our bordering State is Washington & Alaska. Huntsman also starts at lower divisions, starting at “B” and working their way up through five divisions to end at Major. Most other senior associations have four divisions starting at AA and ending at Major-Plus also known as Super Major. The Huntsman tournament attracted approx 340 teams playing in the various divisions and age groups 50 – 75. Seventy-two of those teams were from Canada. Canada’s strongest showing ever. The EV club is now preparing to attend the SSUSA Winter Worlds in Las Vegas November 17-19. Jim Klassen, Manager
